The song is titled “Warm Summer” and is performed by the band “Izzy Outerspace.” An independent music group with their lead, Izzy, originating from Switzerland and now living in Los Angeles. She has been practicing music for just over 5 years, making her way up and down the west coast of the US to perform at various shows. At times venturing east to the areas in and surrounding New Mexico and Arizona. On some occasions heading all the way out to New York City and beyond as a solo act or with her band. Izzy produces her own shows most of the time and does so by reaching out to and speaking with venue owners, producers, and other bands all over the country as she sets out on various small tours each year. She has been known to drive from LA all the way up north to Seattle, Washington to make small west coast tours happen. When flying is out of the question, she drives her own used sedan to shows. She packs up nearly every inch including merch, equipment, and even lighting gear in order to create the best possible atmosphere for her music and to immerse the audience in a feeling.

Izzy Outerspace, like most independent bands, is comprised of various musicians at times. Each permanent and temporary member bringing their own take to each aspect of the band while still remaining true to themselves and to the essence that is the emotionally charged songs. Aside from money earned at shows or through online merch sales the artists that breathe life into the project also provide further support in various ways. Band members connect each other to their own network of creators, help to finance recording time, create band themed merch, or even help produce and create music videos. Every little thing adds up and pushes the group into another phase that is always better than the last. As the band grows, evolves, and shifts along with the more and more ‘digital’ music industry Izzy Outerspace graces more local venues to continue spreading their unique sound to all that will hear it. This “do it yourself” indie approach has become the standard common practice with musicians in the industry. Using the means created by digital purveyors has allowed easy access to a once difficult to reach world and nearly unlimited access to listeners while the payout for creating has become less so. Now, the goal is to get a few more monthly listeners, a few more songs saved, and some hopes and prayers that the audience will purchase online merch, records, or come out to a show. Of course the ultimate goal would be to have a production company or producer take over all the non-music creating aspects so that the artist can continue doing what they do best.

The singer has dark hair, a little longer than shoulder length. Dawning a full denim jumpsuit, thin stocking like socks with pastel planets and black loafer shoes. She plays an electric guitar and knows just the right amount of distance she needs to be between the mic as to not disturb the calm atmosphere that’s been created with the audience before belting out the chorus. The bass player is tall with a lightly grown out but short bleached hairstyle, he’s wearing all black, bearded and slowly mouths back-up vocals to balance and help create a lightness that the growing crowd begins to cozy into. The drummer plays on an appropriately sparkly gold jazz style set of drums that camera flashes begin to flicker off of. He’s a little shorter, wears gray slacks, a black tee and fitted baseball cap. As he taps in the drums he watches for any changes the singer might cue his way. The mood is slow, comfortable, and aglow as people listen intently to the song of that warm summer as if they’re all drifting into their own story of the same love and thinking of the words that were left unsaid.

For the entirety of the evening memories flow, focused on all of the summers spent in a carefree daze with the cliché of young loves. The notes in the air almost resemble the smell of those same summers spent by the pool, at the beach, or just driving around in an old used car doing absolutely nothing but spend time together with friends that have long been disconnected.

A soft airy pluck of the guitar fills the air followed by another gentle pluck. Eyes peer up from glowing phones to see a row of Christmas tree lights guiding the way down from the venue’s smoking section and into the patio where the sound reverberates off the neighboring store walls. Light strums of the same guitar paired with quiet pulls of the bass as jazz style drums quietly intrude. The sweet song is whispered into the microphone and begins to tell the story of lost words between lovers. A warm summer love, the kind that you never forget about despite many attempts over the years.
